Chapters 1-3
Chapter 1- The book begins by Huck saying that we might have heard of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and that it was truthful for the most part. At the end of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Tom and Huck found robbed money in a cave that they were aloud to keep 6k each from. The Widow, the person Huck is staying with, tries to get him to do good and be religious, but Huck refuses to. She, and another woman that stays with her and Huck, try to persuade get him to be good by telling him that if he wont, then he would go to hell, but they also say that Tom will be going to hell so Huck wants to go with him for a change in scenery. Huck later goes to bed and feels very lonely. He accidentally flicks a spider into a fire and kills it and he is scared that it is a bad omen.
Chapter 2- Huck hears a meow outside signaling Tom so he goes out to meet him. When they pass the kitchen, One of Widows slaves hears them and sits down in front of them to listen to see who is there. Huck is itchy but stays still until the slave falls asleep. Tom wants to tie the slave back but settles to hang his hat on the tree above him and leave a few coins for five candles. The slave later becomes a bit of a celebrity because he claims that the ghost took him and left him the 5 cent piece that he also claims has magical powers. Then, Tom takes Huck to the cave where they meet some other boys to sign Toms agreement were they will become robbers and murders. They all eagerly agree.
Chapter 3- Again, the two women try to convince Huck to be religious and pray for spiritual qualities. He finds no use in them and gives up. Rumors begin to circulate that Huck's drunk dad has shown up dead on the river bank but Huck just thinks that it is a women dressed in man's clothing because the face is unreadable. Huck is sad that it isn't his dad because he doesn't want his father to come back in the future and beet him as he has is the past. After a few months, all of the boys give up on the earlier agreement with no deaths or thefts. They all believed that it has just turn into one of Toms games.

Chapters 4-6
Chapter 4- Huck is beginning to improve his life through school. He then noticed tracks in the woods. He then went to sell all of his money to Judge Thatcher for one dollar. Huck then goes to a slave with a "mystical" hairball. He gives the slave a fake coin and the slave puts the hairball down and has it speak through him. It talks about how him and his father each have one good and one bad angel and there is no knowing which one will win. It also says that Huck's life will have many highs and many lows and that he will first marry a poor woman and then a rich.
Chapter 5- Pap shows up in Huck's room and gets mad at him for trying to be better than him. He then keeps repeating that he will hurt him if he tries to learn anymore. He then is taken through a custody battle for Huck an he wins. The judge didn't want to separate an son from his father. Huck's father then gets drunk and is sent to jail. The judge later invites him to spend time with him and his family to try to reform him. He decided that the only way to was with a gun.
Chapter 6- Pap sues Judge Thatcher for what used to be Huck's money. Huck still attends school to rebel against his father. Pap then kidnaps Huck. While pap was out drinking, Huck got a saw and escaped his prison from both his father and Widow Douglas. Pap claims that the judge is holding out on him with the money. Chapter 7- Pap didn't remember his drunken rage when he wakes up. He sends Huck out to see if they caught any fish. Once Huck is outside, he sees a canoe. Huck hides the canoe in the woods. Once Pap leaves, Huck finishes sawing his way out, gathers everything of worth into the canoe, covers up his hole, and uses pigs blood to make it seem as robbers have killed him. He then goes to the canoe and waits for Pap to leave to go to Jackson's Island. Once, he sees Pap paddle past, Huck stealthily travels away.
Chapter 8- The next morning, Huck sees a boat full of all his loved and not so loved ones. They are searching for his supposedly dead body. They trough our bread that Huck thinks is good. He is glad to be gone but is sorry for making people worry about him. He stays on the island for about three days and enjoys eating fish and berries, being alone, and smoking whenever he wishes. Chapter 10- Huck doesn't stop thinking about the dead man even though Jim tells him that it is bad luck to do so. Huck does not care because he thinks he already has bad luck. Later, Huck tries to prank Jim with a dead rattlesnake but its mate came and bit Jim's leg. Huck later decides to go back to shore. Jim lets him but he makes him go into a disguise as a girl. Once Huck sets out, he sees a middle aged woman that he believes to be new.
Chapter 11- The woman invited Huck in even though she was suspicious of him. The woman talked to Huck about many different things before mentioning Huck's murder. She says that people first thought it was Pa who did it, and then Jim because he left at the same time, and then Pa again because he wasted the money that he should have used on finding Huck to buy alcohol. They both have a reward for finding them. The woman then said that she told her husband and another man to go out later that night and search around were Huck and Jim are staying because she saw smoke from a fire. The woman then asked Huck his name again. When he repeated it, he changed it so she knew he was a runaway boy. She then asked what Huck's real name was and she quizzed him some more. She then sent him off, not knowing who he really was. She told him to send for her if he ever needed anything. Once Huck got back to Jim, he set a decoy fire for the men to follow. He and Jim then quickly packed up and left.

Chapters 12-14
Chapter 12- Huck and Jim sailed down the river for the next amount of time. They sailed in the night and hid during the day. They began to live off of hunted, bought, and stool food when they needed it. They later began to feel bad about their steeling though so they gave up a few things for somewhat of a sacrifice to make them feel better. During this time, they come along a wretch steam boat. Against Jim's will, Huck enters it to find supplies. While inside, he over hears two robbers threatening to kill a third robber. Huck then exits and tells Jim to get rid of the robbers boat so they can't get away but Jim says that Huck and Jim's boat has floated away earlier.
Chapter 13- Huck and Jim then left in the robbers boat. Once farther away Huck feels bad for the robbers because he feels that he may even be a robber some day. Huck then has Jim take the boat to shore so that Huck can get help. Huck goes and tells a ferry watchman that his family is stuck on the wretch steam boat so the watchman goes to find it. Huck feels very proud of himself and believes that Widow Duglas would be too. Huck and Jim then sink the robbers boat and then go to sleep for the night. Once the ferry watchman finds the boat it is obvious that the robbers are dead.
Chapter 14- Huck then sees that the robbers had a lot of books. He begins to then read them to Jim. Jim tells Huck that he does not enjoy adventures very much. Huck tried to explain the point of many stories but Jim did not understand. They then made up some of their own adventure stories.
Chapter 13- Huck and Jim then left in the robbers boat. Once farther away Huck feels bad for the robbers because he feels that he may even be a robber some day. Huck then has Jim take the boat to shore so that Huck can get help. Huck goes and tells a ferry watchman that his family is stuck on the wretch steam boat so the watchman goes to find it. Chapters 15-16
Chapter 15- After some time, Huck and Jim reach the Ohio River which was their goal. Then, through the fog, Huck and Jim get separated in the canoe and raft. It takes some time before Huck then finds Jim later asleep on the raft. After that, Huck decides to trick Jim. Once Jim awoke, Huck pretended like they never were separated. This made Jim mad so Huck then felt bad about what he had done.
Chapter 16- Huck and Jim are scared that they will miss the entrance to the free states. Huck was afraid that he was doing the wrong thing by taking Jim away from his rightful owner but soon changes his mind when Jim says that Huck is his only friend and the only person that has kept there word to help him. He began to talk about how he is going to work to gain money to buy his family back and that if that doesn't work then he will get people to kidnap them. They then entered the free states. Once they get to a check point, Huck started to lie about how his family was on the raft and that they were sick with smallpox. this kept the man from searching for escaping slaves and the man also gave Huck $40 of gold because he pitied him. Huck felt bad about lying at first but was later happy with his decision because he thought that he would feel even worse if he gave Jim up. Later, someone steals there canoe and a steamboat brakes their raft. They believe that this is still from the bad luck that the snake skin has brought. They both dived off the raft in time but were again separated. Huck got to shore but was then surrounded by a pack of dogs.

Chapters 17-18
Chapter 17- A stranger rounds up the dogs away from Huck and takes Huck home. They do not know who Huck is so the believed that he was from another family. They soon give up there doubts about his fake identity. They then tell a boy about Huck's age named Buck to go and get Huck fresh clothes so that he can dry off. The boy later told Huck that if he was from the family that they earlier believed him to be, that he would kill Huck. Then Buck tries to tell Huck a riddle but Huck does not understand the point of it. After that, Buck says that if Huck stayed, it would be really fun. At this point Huck is planning his excuse for being orphaned. The family then invited Huck to stay as long as he would like. Huck believes that it would be the perfect life to live in such a perfectly cozy little house with them.
Chapter 18- Huck admires the master of the house. He owns a large estate, a never ending number of slaves, and he has a beautiful family with multiple children. He was a very soft and kind man yet everyone honored and respected him. Soon later, Buck tried to shot a boy that was from the family whom the family Huck was staying with believed him to be from. Huck asked why Buck did such a thing and Buck replied by saying that their two families have been in a feud for longer then anyone can remember and that no one remembers why. They did not know each other but they were both in trouble. The one was about 70 and the other was around 30 years of age. While talking, the two men realize that they are both con artists so the decided to team up and trick Huck and Jim into waiting on them. Huck soon found out but did not want to get into any trouble so he went along with them.
Chapter 20- The two men then asked Jim if he was a runaway slave. To answer this question, Huck creates a story about how he is an orphan and that Jim and him travel at night so people do not ask them that question. The four men then stopped at a nearby town. Chapters 21-24
Chapter 21- Once the Duke and Dauphin woke up, they began to practice their Shakespeare. They got many different stories and lines confused with one another, yet it was evident that the Duke was very talented. They then traveled to a small town where they saw an endless number of lazy men arguing about chewing tobacco. Duke then posted a handbill for their show. Huck later saw a shooting where a drunk man was slaughtered in front of his daughter for insulting someone else.
Chapter 22- The mob then traveled to the killers house. They were greeted by the killer on his roof with a rifle in his hands. The killer then gave his speech and the crowd dispersed. Next, Huck went to the circus. Every one but him enjoyed it because Huck did not like to see the people in danger. Few people attended the Duke's show that night. Afterwards, he printed a new handbill for a different show. On this handbill he stated that "women and children are not admitted".
Chapter 23- The Dukes new show was as full as it could be. The people loved it at first and they laughed nonstop at the Dauphin appears on stage wearing nothing but body paint. The crowd later got furious when the brief show was over because they felt ripped off. They decided to tell others that it was amazing so that they were not the only ones who would look stupid. The show is full for three nights in a row but on the third night, the 4 men run back to the raft because the show was full of mad people from the first two nights. They get to the raft on time with 465 dollars in hand.
Chapter 24- The men then headed to the next town. Huck was scared to be left aloe with a slave so they tied Jim up. They then docked and went to a steam boat a few miles away from the town to make a large entrance. The dauphin met a young man on the boat. The man told him about a recently deceased man. The town was waiting for his two relatives to come and split the land that has been granted to them in his will but they have begun to doubt that they will ever arrive. Dauphin then learned as much as he could from the talkative young man. Once the two men enter the town, the pretend to be the dead mans relatives. This makes Huck sick.

Chapters 25-28
Chapter 25- The duke, the king, and Huck were all lead to a teary welcome from the Wilks' sisters. The sisters were offered 3,000 dollars while the brothers were offered 6,000 dollars. The king and the duke then go down to collect the money but they saw that the full offered amount was not present. They then added some of there own money and gave the sisters their full offer. Then, the duke and the king were said to be frauds but the sisters refused to believe the acuser. Huck hated this whole ordeal.
Chapter 26- The the duke and the king weasel their way into staying at the Wilks' house. They all eat together and are again questioned about being frauds. The other sisters scolded the sister for asking. Huck felt horrible and planned to leave early but the others didn't want to. THis lead Huck to take the money and leave.
Chapter 27- Huck hid the money in the coffin. During the funeral a dog is barking so the undertaker went quiet it. He stated that the easily hear whack was the dog catching a rat even though no one believed it. He then walked over and closed the coffin without looking inside. Huck now has no way of knowing who has the money. He wants so send the sisters a letter saying to dig up the coffin and see if the money is there once he leaves them. The dauphin told the sisters that he would take them to England. The men then sold off the land and had plans of separating the slaves. This made the sisters upset, but Huck didn't care because he knew that they would be reunited once the dauphin and duke were discovered to truly be frauds. Huck then convinced the people that it was the slaves who stole the money once they found out that it had disappeared.
Chapter 28- Huck then saw Mary Jane crying about the slave family instead of being happy about the upcoming trip to England. Huck then says that it is not a problem because they will be reunited very soon. After this he told her about how they were frauds and he sent her away so she was safe. He left her a note saying were the money was. In the future, he has said that he thought of her again multiple times but there paths never again crossed. Huck later convinced the other sisters that she has gone to visit a sick friend. During the auction of the goods, there is a mob consisting of the two men who claim to be the real brothers.
Chapter 26- The the duke and the king weasel their way into staying at the Wilks' house. They all eat together and are again questioned about being frauds. Chapters 29-31
Chapter 29- With the real brothers back, the fraud are again under suspicion. What makes it worse is that they cannot produce the 6,000 dollars. The men are then tested by their handwriting. This shows that the frauds really are frauds but there is no way to prove that the real brothers are the real brothers. The real brothers then talk about a tattoo that the dead man has so both pairs of brothers describe it differently. After someone checks, real confusion is caused when they see that no tattoo is present. everyone then says that they want all 4 men dead, but they then go to see the coffin. Everyone is amazed when they see the 6,000 dollars there. Huck then thinks that he sees Mary Jane but his heart sinks when he sees the duke and king.
Chapter 30- The king is extremely mad at Huck for leaving them. They said that they left once everyone found the money. They couldn't believe that the other hid the money in the coffin without telling them. They get mad at each other. They went to sleep before anymore blood was shed.
Chapter 31- The 4 men then traveled down the river trying to leave the radius of the area where their rumors would be spread. Huck and Jim always hear the king and duke whispering and this worries them. They plan to ditch the duke and king as soon as they can. They then stopped at a town and Huck tried to leave. Once he got back to the raft, he didn't see Jim and he heard that someone recognized the poster with his reward on it and he took Jim and left to go get the money. Huck realized that the man that took Jim was the king. Huck then thinks of writing a letter to Miss Watson and Tom Sawyer to go save him but he then decided to go and steal Jim out of slavery. Huck then went to find Jim. He ran into the duke who told him different stories about where Jim was.
Chapter 30- The king is extremely mad at Huck for leaving them. They said that they left once everyone found the money. They couldn't believe that the other hid the money in the coffin without telling them. They get mad at each other. They went to sleep before anymore blood was shed.
Chapter 31- The 4 men then traveled down the river trying to leave the radius of the area where their rumors would be spread. Huck and Jim always hear the king and duke whispering and this worries them. They plan to ditch the duke and king as soon as they can. They then stopped at a town and Huck tried to leave. Once he got back to the raft, he didn't see Jim and he heard that someone recognized the poster with his reward on it and he took Jim and left to go get the money. Huck realized that the man that took Jim was the king. Huck then thinks of writing a letter to Miss Watson and Tom Sawyer to go save him but he then decided to go and steal Jim out of slavery. Huck then went to find Jim. He ran into the duke who told him different stories about where Jim was.
Chapters 32-34
Chapter 32- Huck goes to the place where Jim is supposedly being held. The white women there thinks that he is her nephew so Huck goes along with it. She asked why he was delayed by so many days and he replies by saying that something went wrong with the boat. When she asks if anyone was hurt she is relieved when Huck replies that only a black person was killed. Once the women's husband arrived home, Huck realized that Tom sawyer was the nephew of the couple. When Huck heard the steamboat close by, he left to go tell Tom what has happened.
Chapter 33- Once Tom sees Huck, he believes that he is Huck's ghost because he thought that Huck was dead. Once Tom realizes that Huck is real, the agree to help each other free Jim. The couple is happy to have the both boys as guest. Huck waited to hear anything about Jim from them but they didn't say anything until one of their sons asked if they were going to see the show that the duck and king are doing because the "runaway slave" said it was a con. Huck and Tom then leave. While in town they see the duke and king tarred and feathered while being rushed out of town. They all agree that you will feel bad no matter what you do.

This plan is too simple for Tom so he makes another one that is way wilder and may even get them killed. They go to talk to Jim. When Jim cries in joy, they tell his superstitious keeper that it is witches. They then leave and make plans to dig him out.

Chapters 35-38
Chapter 35- The boys a disappointed by the lack of protection that the Phelps provide the slaves. Tom said that they had to make their own obstacles so that they could free Jim like people did in books. Tom said that they would have to do things such as sawing the chain even though all you had to do was lift it up, use a rope ladder, and use a shirt that Jim would write a diary on with his own blood. He also said that it would be nice if they could saw Jim's leg off to free him. Even though Tom was stealing and breaking a lot of the Phelps things, he got mad because Huck stole a watermelon and he said that you needed to leave money in return.
Chapter 36- That night they try to dig to Jim with small knives but it does not work so they switch to pick-axes. When Jim sees them he is excited to follow their plan even though he doesn't understand it. Tom gives Jim a tin plate to etch his declaration of captivity to throw out the window for the world to read. Tom then convinced Jim's keeper that he needs to give Jim a pie so that he is not Haunted by witches anymore. The keeper agrees, so Tom plans on putting the rope ladder in the pie.
Chapter 37- The Phelps realized that the boys have stolen things so she takes her anger out on everyone but them. They think that it is rats so the boys plug up the rat holes to confuse them. They also tried to confuse them by replacing and taking away multiple items around the house so that they do not know what they do or don't have. They then tried to make the witch pie. It took a lot of work but they later finished it and sent it to Jim.
Chapter 38- Tom then told Huck to scratch a coat of arms on the wood wall. This presents to be very difficult but once it is finished, Tom is disappointed because it is in wood instead of stone. They then get Jim to get a large piece of stone for them. Huck is getting mad at Tom because he never does anything but makes other do things that are not necessary. Tom tries to get Jim to do things that are nearly impossible but Jim refuses so Tom is mad.

Chapter 39- Tom and Huck began to infest Jim's cell with snakes and rats. While doing this, they, also, get many snakes and rats trapped in the house. This frustrates the people. They then wrote letters telling them that they, as gangsters, are going to steal Jim. Tom then made up fake plans to do so that the Phelps are off of their track.
Chapter 40- The Phelps sent Tom and Huck upstairs right after dinner. A group of uneasy farmers than showed up at the door. The boys went to Jim to get him out through a hole in the wall. They then got away in the canoe. Tom was proud of the new souvenir bullet in his leg.

Chapter 41- Huck left Jim and Tom to go find a doctor. On his way, the Phelps found him and took him home. They believed that the people who took Jim had to be a group with amazing skill. The house was full of the farmers and their wives. They did not want to let Huck go and risk loosing another boy. Tom was touched by her concerned and promised to himself that he would never harm her again.
Chapter 42- The search for Tom ended in vain. They then gave up, but very soon after, he showed up with Jim and a doctor. The doctor said that Jim risked his freedom to help Tom but the men were still hostile against him. Once Tom gets better, he convinced the Phelps to let Jim go because it was an old ladies last wish. Aunt Polly then comes and figures out that Tom has been intercepting the letters between her and the Phelps. The then scolds the two boys.
